“Never grow a wishbone, daughter, where your backbone ought to be.” – Clementine Paddleford
A personal painting I've been working on, on-and-off, for (oof) two years now. Coming back to the same painting over such a long stretch, as your skills continuously evolve, is a bit of a tug of war. Every time I picked up the pen again, I thought about changing something or taking it in a different direction. But ultimately she seems to have turned out very similar to the image I originally had in my head.

My contribution to Light Grey Art Lab's MIDNIGHT exhibition.
The theme of the show was Dreams and Their Interpretations, and all the contributing artists illustrated one of their dreams or nightmares. Here's the dream I chose to pick for the show:
I'm sure we've all had that dream where we're jumping off the ground, trying our hardest to fly, but never quite making it to the sky.
In this dream, that finally changed. Thanks to a new pair of shoes powered either by magic or rocket fuel (my subconscious wasn't clear on this detail!) I finally got to fly. I spent a magical night's sleep swooping and soaring through the clouds with a final stop to hover in front of a perfect sunset.
Prints are available HERE at Light Grey Art Lab.

Personal work. This is my reimagining of a scene from the original tale of The Little Mermaid. When I was little, I read a version that mentioned a temple and formed an image in my head of it taking place in India. After being reminded of that much later (and watching a lot of Bollywood films) this painting was born!

When I was asked how I created the glitter in some of my work, what could be more appropriate than a Labyrinth inspired painting to demonstrate? ) What was going to be a short and sweet painting with oodles of glitter for a "quick" tutorial turned into something much more involved.
